There are a lot of John Taylor (s). Chances are, I’m not the one you’re looking for. But here you are, and here I am, so why not let me be your John Taylor? For a while.
John Taylor, Host of The Pairs With Life wine podcast
I am that John Taylor. I started the Pairs With Life podcast back in early 2019 with my original co-host, Christine Trice (of OMG I So Need A Glass of Wine Or I’m Going To Sell My Kids fame). In 2020, Christine left the show to pursue other opportunities (also read: we were sleeping together and then she dumped my ass and that was that). I have been hosting the podcast solo ever since.
You should listen to Pairs With Life. It’s awesome. And I’m not just saying that because I host it and produce it and cuddle it at night. It’s actually pretty good. Check it out.
John Taylor, Not From Duran Duran
Am I the guy from Duran Duran? Yes. I was totally a sexy British rock star in the 80s, and then I got sooooo tired of fame and money and super hot women that I became an obscure and unpaid American writer. Though I was kinda-sorta a rock star for about ten minutes. Alright…
Here’s The Actual John Taylor Story
I was born and raised in San Diego, California and moved to Los Angeles in 1982 to pursue dreams of screenwriting and filmmaking. In LA, I attended the University of Southern California. After failing to get into film school 7 times, I got a BA in Shattered Dreams and False Hopes. I also minored in Getting Gut Punched By Reality. After being handed a degree in Journalism in 1987 as a consolation prize, I dove into a career in music. Because getting gut-punched just isn’t painful enough.
By 1996, my band, The Uninvited, had produced four independent albums and became one of the most popular acts in the western United States. This lead to a deal on Atlantic Records, which released the band’s self-titled debut album in 1997. The band had two Top 100 hits and toured nationally with Dave Matthews, Blues Traveller, Third Eye Blind, and many other acts. Our music appeared in the TV shows Beverly Hills 90210 and Party of Five, and in the motion pictures The Commandments and North Beach. The band can also be heard in several HBO Documentaries, video games and on that annoying “One Hit Wonders of The 90’s” station your co-worker always plays on Spotify.
John Taylor: Writer
In 2001, my vast experience in shattered dreams was once again called into play as we hung up our touring shoes for good. After a brief but horrifying career in real estate, I got wise and made a career out of his favorite hobby: wine. I have held various sales & marketing positions in Napa Valley since 2011.
This is when my writing career started in earnest, with blogs, essays, and short stories appearing in various publications. I have written three novels, including the aptly-titled Pairs With: Life, which was released by Hurn Publications in September 2020. It’s actually a fun and compelling read, or at least my mom thinks so. You can learn more about it (and buy it…like, please effing buy my book) on the book page.
Hahaha!! You are so awesome Dude!
